Sports & Activity Pack Familiarisaton and Day Certificate in Sports Leadership

Target groups: Youth workers, Development Officers, Project Staff and Volunteers aged 16+

Session time: 1 day

Aim

To provide an introduction to leadership skills in order that participants are able to deliver basic sports sessions at their clubs and projects.

Objectives

  • To familiarise the group with activities, planning process and safety mechanisms
  • To build confidence in delivery of practical activities in a youth club setting
  • To provide a basic introduction to leadership skills

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session the group will:

  • Grasp the basic elements involved in planning safe, purposeful and fun activities in their youth club
  • Understand basic sporting structures in the UK
  • Experience delivery, participation and evaluation of basic sports sessions
  • Share ideas and discuss practical issues involved in the delivery of activities
  • Have an understanding of the basic elements of leadership including;
    • Communication skills
    • Group control
    • Organisational skills

Method

This is a practical course and participants will be involved in a range of basic sports and have the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills.

Qualification

Successful candidates receive a nationally recognised award through Sports Leaders UK. Candidates are encouraged to go on to The Community Sports Leaders Level 2.
